Policies & FAQs
At Calla Terra Studios, my #1 goal is to create a welcoming, inclusive, and safe space for children and families. These policies help keep classes enjoyable, supportive, and organized for everyone.
Registration & Refunds
Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Fees are non-refundable, but registrations may be transferred to another date if space allows.
Each program has its own registration form — one for Wonderwood and one for Maker’s Trail. You’ll find both on the Registration page.
Can I bring my younger or older child along if they don’t fit the age range?
Yes. I understand that childcare can be tricky, and families often want siblings to participate together. You’re welcome to include children outside the suggested range, but please be aware that the projects may feel a little above or below their developmental level. To help keep everyone engaged, I will have simple, age-appropriate activities (drawing, coloring, or collage supplies) available.
Please be sure to register all children who will be attending the class, whether they are within the class age range or not.
Do you have sibling discounts?
I’m happy to support families of all shapes and sizes! To ensure I keep programs accessible to all families, I offer a 10% sibling discount for families registering 3 or more children. The discount will apply automatically to your total when you checkout during registration.
Class Information
Are classes indoors or outdoors?
Classes take place at the Yawkey House Garden in a hybrid format — generally, we will spend about half of class time outside in the garden and the other half inside the adjacent carriage house. Restrooms will be available in the carriage house for the duration of class. We will be inside on rainy days. See below for inclement weather procedures. What happens in the case of inclement weather?
If weather conditions make class unsafe or unworkable (heavy thunderstorms or snowstorms, sub-zero temperatures), we will cancel by 5:00 PM the day before class and notify all registrants by email. Marathon County Historical Society and I will post the message to our social media accounts as well. What should we bring to class?
I will provide all materials unless otherwise noted, including art smocks. I may occasionally have makers bring their own natural materials or recyclables to a class for a special collaborative project, but I will always notify you in advance.
How do I contact Calla Terra Studios?
You can reach Lauren, the educator and artist behind Calla Terra, directly at lauren@callaterra.com.
Caregiver Presence
Wonderwood classes (ages 2-4) — I ask that a parent, guardian, or caregiver stay for the full class.
Maker’s Trail classes (ages 4-7) — caregiver presence is optional for children within the suggested age range. If your child is outside that range, I ask that an adult stay to ensure they feel comfortable and stay engaged.
Sliding Scale & Community Participation
The trust-based sliding scale allows families to choose the rate that works best for their circumstances. All students receive the same creative experience and your choice stays private.
Community Rate ($10) – A lower-cost option for those who need financial flexibility.
Standard Rate ($18) – Covers the actual cost of class.
Sustainer Rate ($25) – A pay-it-forward option that helps support others in our community.
Do I need to provide proof of income for the sliding scale pricing?
No paperwork needed. The sliding scale is based on trust and community-mindedness. Families pick the rate that works best for them.By selecting thoughtfully, you’re contributing to a creative community where all children can participate and blossom together. Any and all participation strengthens the art-making experience!
Photo & Video Release
At Calla Terra Studios, I follow the Reggio Emilia educational philosophy, which includes documenting children’s work in order to reflect on activities, guide future projects, and support ongoing curiosity. This also shows children that their ideas matter and keeps families connected to their progress.
I may use these images or videos for program storytelling (such as on my website, social media, or flyers) to show the community the joy and value of Calla Terra’s classes.
When you register, you will have the option to give full permission, permission with limitations (excluding your child’s face), or decline photos/videos. I will always respect your wishes.
You can read more about the Reggio approach and my teaching philosophy on the About page.
